just finished installing ubuntu on my Sony Vaio... (FS 215E)

few teething problems with getting the volume controls, brightness etc to work (but found a fix on the web). WPA encryption was a little tricky to get going, but works fines now and my orange 3G card works fine with a little tinkering.

If anyone else is going to try it here is a link to my problems, fixes and sources...

Aftermuch tinkering and finally sussing it xorg.conf. I have got my pc to dual head. I have my tft set a 1280x1024 and I have my other screen set to the s-video out hooked upto my tv @ 1024x768 This means no more messing about to watch media on my tv.

nice one mate, glad to hear it :)

There's nowt wrong with XP, it works fine on the five PC's I have use of. It's users that are the problem not the operating system :)

Agree with this. Infact in the ten odd years I have been in pc support I would say that people who make the worst users are those that think they know what they are doing.

I am currently downloading the live cd of umbungo to give it a whirl.

Enjoy Unbuntu  It takes some getting used to but it's worth it.
