Remap at what milage ?

Featured Replies

At what milage did you get your car remapped ?

Anyone got it done on high milage count ~ 130k+?

135k here. However my turbos only 12k old and is a pd150.

I've mapped a 270k Passat taxi. It not long had a full top end rebuild after the cam belt went :(

So long as the engine is healthy and the are no underlying issues you can remap at any mileage really. The only risk with a high miler is that it then puts a bit more stress on the turbo, if it's the original, it could lead to it failing and needing replacing. But the engine itself is fairly bomb proof if the correct oil is used and changed at regular service intervals.

Thats what's got me hesitating.

Im still on all original parts.

Had my mk1 mapped at about 40k and it ran +/-170bhp until 120k when the standard turbo went pop.

It then went hybrid turbo and 202bhp and is now owned by T.Spark on here at circa 190k.

Touch wood is healthy.

Been looked after well from previous owner/member for 10 years.

Its me thats the problem. Lol

Took it for a bash round castle combe & now setting sights on going to more and more

Thats what's got me hesitating.

Im still on all original parts.

I wouldn't worry too much, so long as it's not making any tell tale noises of pending failure you should be fine. I'd always budget for a turbo replacement on these after 100k anyway, some have been known to fail around 70-80k believe it or not. The clutch is also something else to bear in mind, but again if it feels strong it's not too much of a worry for a basic map at this point.

The one thing I would check are the boost pipes for leaks and how secure they are. Very common for the joints to get weak and adding more boost will likely make them pop off or leak more. Can easily be DIY fixed with zip ties or self tapping screws.

My brother got a black smoke remap on a vrs and figured the money saves would almost pay for a turbo. Not that he needed it

How much would one budget for a new turbo? OEM or better (as long as it won't require lots of extra work)
