help needed with 2000 1.4 mpi. engine cover oil leak

Featured Replies

hi. i've just bought a low mileage 2000 1.4 mpi 68k. i ilke the car and think its worth trying to get a couple of issues sorted. i'm a big polo fan normally but this popped up cheap. the issues are probably why.

all the issues seem to be starting from an oil leak around / under the engine cover. mainly just oil everywhere but it has got on the alternator and the power sterring light comes on occasionally.

i have removed the cover and there's no replacement cap. i have ordered one with the seal. ( a push on one for a felicia as i read on here somewhere).

my big question is.... if i ditch the cover and put a push on filler cap on, what do i do with the 2 pipes that enter the area around the oil filler ??

do i just ignore these ? or have they to be re routed or something ?

the car on the whole is in real good nick barring a bit of laquer peel on the roof so i'd like to sort it. 300 quid for a car with 68k and a good mot must be worth trying to sort.

thanks in advance rob

I've put away that engine cover due to the fact it was leaking oil vapours all over the engine bay. Get the seal along with the oil cap, otherwise it will be pretty unstable. It is making a lot less noise without the cover though.

yes the cap and seal is on order. any ideas about the 2 pipes that fit into the filler neck ? thanks

I think one of them goes intothe throttle body to burn the extra oil vapors, but I have no idea about the second. I will take my car for a drive later and I will take a few pictures for you.

oustanding thanks. i thought i may have to blank the pipes off but now i can see they remain in place.

Yep! Just unscrew the cover and fit the oil cat. It is a straight forward job. Be careful with the cap seal, it is tricky fitting it.

tricky in what way ? does the seal fit onto the cap first before putting on ?

Yes and make sure you put it on the inner line and not on the exteriour one a I did for thr first time...
