how accurate is the computer in the vrs,it says 10 miles before i run out of petrol.that would mean 280 from a full tank,is that about normal?

As far as I know the trip computer reports 0 miles remaining when you actually have about 7 litres of fuel left (in the vRS that leaves about 40 miles or so before you run out of petrol)

As for the range - I usually get 280-320 miles from around 45 litres of 97 octane petrol depending on traffic conditions and how enthusiastically I have been driving. (on mainly motorway miles I have seen the trip computer reporting an average of 39mpg over 160 miles or so driving at around 70mph)

my two extreme milages from a tank in my 4x4(which has a slightly bigger tank than the vRS) are 150miles and 400miles

The range readout indicates the distance which the vehicle can still travel with the actual level of fuel in the tank. That figure is based on the calculation of the average fuel consumption for the last 50km. The fuel level warning light comes on and remains on if there are only about 7 litres (1.54 gallons) of fuel in the tank.

I'm sure I have driven about 40 miles extra when the trip computer is telling me to fill up :confused:

i've managed maybe 10 myself and thats after driving sensibly for a week

Dont know about the Octavia but my Superb will definately do at least another 40 miles once the range indicator hits 0 miles, I've been in the unfortunate position of being out in the sticks late at night and finding every garage shut! luckily the car just kept going, so finally got to filling station, must've been running on thin air!!! happen'd on several occasions!! (I dont let it get that low anymore!)

I've gone for 6 miles when the trip computer has said zero miles remaining.

Most I've got from a tank is 415 miles.
