superb 1.8TSI engine not cranking

Featured Replies

Hey guys. I got a new Skoda superb 1.8TSI in 2010. The car behaved well until it had a DSG failure in 2012 after clocking 40000 KM's. I got the same replaced. Now recently I have noticed that my engine sometimes is not cranking and gearbox is not responding. When I re insert the key and try it starts and drives well. Encountered this problem 3-4 times in a day. When I took it to a garage the gentleman there put it on scan and told me that the Engine is not able to communicate with the DSG and the instrument cluster panel.I got the DSG replaced 20000 kms ago and the problem has showed up again. I need advise. I have the scan reports that I can share with you guys.your inputs will be appriciated.

All new faults are showing upnon my instrument clusture panel.it says EPC faliure. And yes I got my battery replaced about 8 months ago.

I am no expert but by what you have described it sounds very much like an electronic issue rather than a mechanical one. The dealer that installed your new gearbox (sorry to hear about that so early on in the cars life....) should be able to plug your car in to the diagnostic port and check things through. At worst it's a faulty ignition tumbler or code issue with your key ( not being recognised and the alarm/immobiliser doing its job) or it's a coding glitch that needs resetting.

As I said, I am no specialist but I hope you get it sorted soon.

Thanks Dave. So you intend to say that the ESP faliure indicating on the MFP is due to the coding glitch ??
