vRS brake controller is it...

Featured Replies

... Trying to figure out which brake controller I need.

Basically there are loads of choices all with part number 6Q0 907 375 but with loads of different letters after them

Some say "with ABS" some "TCS and EDL" some (just) "TCS" or "ESP"

TCS - traction control system

EDL = electronic differential lock

ESP = electronic stabilsation program (not the sixth sense ;))

So, before I go jumping in headfirst which one is it please?

What did the vRS have that you nicked the wiring loom off?

Well, if the company would respond to my emails, I might have joy in acquiring that one. I feel like I'm being ignored a bit by them at the moment. :(

Think a phone call is needed. I know what you mean though Ross. The controller the wiring all came from would be perfect, its just acquiring it could be tricky.

Next thing is airbag controller. Found out from an MOT tester I'll need to get that airbag light out by next March as they must work to get through the MOT.... Never realised that.

IIRC airbag is not part of the MOT you cant fail it on a light being on.

I didnt mean you getting the controller from that car, problem is if for example that wiring loom was for a car with ESP, and your car doesnt have it regardless of which ECU you get there will allways be a miss match.

How does the ESP work? is something mechanical needed in addition to the loom and brake controller to make it work?

All I know for sure is my car is entirely re-wired with the loom from an '04 vRS

Edit: Good news on airbag front, but I'm going to check. I was told if it has airbags, the light must come on at startup, and go out again a few seconds later. Will check though. :)

edit2:

There are no checks at all on airbags as part of the MOT Test. MOTT.

Just checked on the MOT regs site, no airbag mentioned.

Also my Astra passed its MOT with the light on due to a faulty pre tensioner. They can advise it but not fail it.

Theres nothing mechanical different for ESp as far as i know, but the wiring looms could well be different.

The wiring loom is probably different as there are more sensors IIRC?

isnt esp standard on the vrs? so you would need an esp controller? sensors?

isnt esp standard on the vrs?

Nope, optional

Nope, ESP is an option on the vRS.

ok i'll get me coat.....

In theory though, whatever the car came with, should work.

Although having said that, the clocks and ECU are from a different car than the wiring looms, so you never know do you. Wish I could pinpoint "ESP" down to something in particular. Was hoping having the same brake controller as the wiring would solve it, and the ECU wouldn't be affected (maybe apart from a little reprogramming)
