Another topic, no doubt already covered !

 

When it had its last service in February, my Scout (2008, 2.0l TDI) was found to have a failed glowplug (computer said so !) on cylinder 3.

 

Was told that "OK for now but will need replacing" - due to new battery (Varta) no problems starting with one cold cylinder through the winter.

 

Is it a DIY job to replace (like changing a spark-plug ?) they seem rather small and don't want to break it off !   Plenty of penetration oil ?

I thought glow plugs were pricey compared to spark plugs?

Around £40 set of 4, also check the rocker cover seal if is sealing properly, costs few quid to get new one.

Good call, but note you don't disturb the rocker cover to do the glow plugs.

You do on the 2.0 16v tdi engines, but not on the 2.0 8v tdi engine used in the Scout.

Thanks for the information gents, will get a set (and a long socket) and replace the lot (still cheaper than an indy quote to replace one ! daren't ask a main dealer !)
