Maybe mapped?....

Featured Replies

My 170 cr octy which ive just recently got destroyed a 15 plate GTD from the off before. These are lighter and run 183bhp with 250tq. Surely he should have had me? He was game as a badger too tailgating me until off motorway onto B road showing off to his mate.

Is there a way to tell if mine already has a map as I plan on mapping it down the line?? Also would a stage 1 map pull away with ease into 4th gear?? Maybe he crunched his gear box too and that why haha

Ah well Skoda 1-0 VW

The new golf is a little bit more powerful than the 170 vrs but I'm not too sure regarding the weight. Newer cars get more and more kit fitted making them heavier. But i would've thought the Golf shouldve had the legs on you. I would just like to add though, I'm into my second week of owning my 170 vrs and while 1st and 2nd goes in a blur once in the higher gears these things go very well indeed and I'm getting more impressed with them.

Year after I'd got mine I went to a Rolling road meet with my old Vauxhall club. Totally standard it made 183bhp and 283lb/ft. Pretty sure I've read on here a few times that the 170 usually comes up with higher than 'standard' figures.

Yeah mate I'm impressed big time to be fair. Step up from a 1.6 sxi anyway!! 1st and 2nd are rubbish but really improves there after.

Ah so these are underrated power wise too. Vag have a bit of a habit of this i believe I'm sure I've read about sstandard fabia vrs's putting out 150 even though they're 'only' 130.

Yes my fl vrs petrol had 221bhp from the get go but only supposed to have 197! Go figure

I know each car puts out different readings as tine goes on depending regular maintenance like but for such big gains on what they declare it is is crazy.

All said and done though the figures you have me there about your octy are the same figures of what the current gtd is. I'd have thought he'd have left me by the power/weight ratio alone.

Ah well ill find out for sure whether it's mapped when I finally book into awesome

It also raises the question about power claims from remap companies if the starting figure is higher than everyone believes.

Sure does meaty when you think of it.

I'm all for gains that the robbing insurers don't know about like haha. All good.

Let us know if its remapped when you find out buddy.

Most VAG cars have more power than the rated output.

The specs for the two cars are;

Golf-

1377kg

181bhp

258 lb-ft

0-60 7.3 seconds

143mph top speed

Octavia-

1395kg

167bhp

225 lb-ft

0-60 8.0 seconds

140mph top speed

So they're not worlds apart. Only 20kg between them which would have been more than taken up if he had someone else in the car.

If you just happened to be in a better gear or try just a little bit harder then you would pull away from him.

Good info. I didn't think the weight difference would be much but those new diesel engines are a lot more torquey.

Maybe yours is fitted with a flux capacitor! :notme:

No restrictions on how fast you can accelerate onto a B road is there. No people around either so why not boot it? I didn't ask who thought it was cool anyhow I merely wanna know how I could tell it was mapped. Cheers.

Suppose mate it is quite close to be fair. Cheers.

I thought the Octavia was rated at 258lb/ft too (both PD and CR),not 225.
