Ok, lots of problems with the coil packs. The bad ones seem to be the "H and J" variants. What's the code on the new one? (Well probably doesn't matter as long as the replacement isn't an H or a J.)

Also, where would you look for the code letter on the coil pack?

A last thought. Is there anyway you can check them visually for failing? Crispy places, cracks, etc.?

Oh, no problems so far on my 1.8 Turbo Beetle.

The only way to tell is to take the plastic engine cover off and then remove the connector from the coil pack as the part number is hidden under the connector. At least it is on the top of it rather than the underneath, which would necessitate removing the pack to find out.

At the moment the latest revision is J.

I'm currently looking at a "dead" one and I can't see what is wrong with it.
