1.6fsi, constant speed!

Featured Replies

Ah chaps, some advice please. I have recently purchased the above vehicle, and very nice it is too, 32k on an 08, clean as whistle, but am i the only one that struggles to keep a car at a constant speed without feeling the need for either increasing or decreasing speed? Its hard to explain but when you try and keep it at 30 or 40 the engine feels like its itching for more, or that its lacking something. Its not something i've noticed at 60 or 70. My mechanic says he's experienced this in quite a few cars (not Skodas) and says its not really an issue to worry about. I'm wondering whether to run some injector cleaner through as this sorts out any running issues I ever get with my 53 Silverline.

Do you mean the engine is hunting?

I've no idea what that means..

Steady throttle on a flat road and it appears to gain power / rpm slightly then drop away again?

You might look at your spark plugs & check the gap.   We used to have this issue with some old bangers.  IIRC the fix was to open the gap from 0.38" to 0.040" (or it might have been the other way).

If your sparklers look good then add 0.002" - it might work.
