Parking Lights- How Long Do They Stay On?

Featured Replies

Fabia 1.4 Ambiente, 16v petrol engine, left-hand drive. Ok, I've just bought the thing new from the dealer, and literally just got home with it. As I was locking it up, I noticed that the driver's side headlamp and rear light were still on. Puzzled, I fiddled around with the headlight controls a bit, then left the car- with those two lights still on.

The missus informs me that these are 'parking lights' that stay on for a little while to reduce the chance of people scraping you in low visibility.

Is this true? Unfortunately, my owner's manual is all in Polish (I'm English, living in Poland) so I can't verify this from the manual. I would be interested if it is the case, as I wonder how the car knows which way you're facing and so which side lights to leave on!

If anyone can shed some light (ho ho) on this, I'd be most grateful...

Cheers all.

Go back out and pop your indicator stalk in the neutral position (middle) and see if that helps. Sounds like the parking lights.

Cheers Shifty, I'll take the rubbish out and have a fiddle :)

EDIT: Yep, that was it! Indicator stalk to neutral and no need to change the Duracells :D

No problem Hope you enjoy your car, and welcome to the site

Yep, they're definitely parking lights. I don't use them because i'm worried i may get a flat battery!

Yep first discovered these on a Vauxhall! You can set which side is on by leaving the indicator stalk up or down and they will stay on as long as the indicator is in that position, or until your battery runs down ;) IIRC, on my Scooby parking lights switch operated both sides. :D

Never used them deliberately though
