2011 Scout CR 2.0 All Year Tyre Help

Featured Replies

Hi,

I could use some help as I've just acquired a 2011 scout cr. I have trawled through the fourm looking at tyre recommendations but couldnt see a thread that really stod out as giving me the answers concisely!

I would like to get 4 new tyres that are good all year, i am not going down the route of winter and summer tyres.

On my previous hatchback I always went out of my way to get Michelin Tyres. However No one seems to mention the mitchelin tyres on here so I don't know whether tgey are bad or just not talked about because of the associated price stigma.

Price for the tyres is not really much of a problem but I dont know which to get. The tyres that came with the car (low tread so need changing) are Bridgestone.

Your help from Experience is much appreciated!

Kind Regards

Goodyear EfficientGrip come up a lot as recommended for performance, life, economy and noise.

If you don't want the yearly expense/hassle of swapping tyres you could consider getting a set of steel wheels with winter tyres on, which you can swap over yourself for nothing. Of course this is a significant initial outlay and you'll need somewhere to store the set which isn't in use, but it will mean you won't have to get new tyres as often as the wear will be spread between both sets.

I'v been down the mitchelin route and they were a good tyre at £650 for a set i wouldent do it again, I now fit nexen n8000

a good price and come with a puncture and damage waranty,

I do use winter tyers on steel rims so have never used them in real winter conditions

Thanks the the replies. i was thinking michelin Primacy 3's.

Please shout if there are better ones I could get instead! i'm going to be getting them next weekend otherwise.

Surely you need an all-season tyre then?

Michelin have just launched their own all-season tyre called the CrossClimate...

But there are all-season tyres from all major manufacturers.

Most Scouts left the factory on Dunlop SP01 Sport tyres (there were some on Pirelli's) which get mixed reviews. I loved our first set and am now on our third. They performed well through a few rough winter's we've experienced and seem to get good mileage.

I toyed with running all-seasons but since the Dunlops have done so well on our Scout I'm sticking with them for the time being...

Unsurprisingly Michelin recommend their CrossClimate for the Scout...

What kind of mileage did you get out of the Dunlop's ? Like you I liked them and I'm on my second set. I drive pretty steadily but they only did around 18k. Looks like this set will be the same. I've read posts with people getting 25 or 30k out of the Sp1's !!

I get around 22K* by my calculations.

I'm on our third set from new, the car is currently on 55,000 miles and I'd guess the current tyres are about half worn.

55K divided by 22K = 2.5 sets of tyres. Is that right?

What I have found a little surprising is that all four tyres wear evenly, and I don't rotate them either. I appreciate all four wheels are driven on the Scout but I figured with the bias being on the front most of the time that they'd therefore wear quicker on the fronts but this doesn't appear to be the case for me.

No issue but it just means when I do need tyres it can be quite expensive!

* I should point out the car is driven by the wife on the school run / short commute to work. The tyres have an easy life.

I stuck a set of Falken euroall season as200 on my Scout when I got it in January. I use michelin PS3 on the vRS. The as200 have good reviews so thought I'd give them a try.

  • 2 weeks later...

I ditched the Dunlop sports Goodyear 4 seasons on the Scout and have been delighted with them, So much that I put a set on my old SLK230. Excellent grip in all conditions and much better in standing water than the Dunlops.
