Fitting Green Cotton Filter

Featured Replies

Just got the said filter in the post and being a total numpty is this easy to fit and did I read somewhere that I will have to remove my Seat strut brace to get to where it goes....

Sorry for the basic question but I promise to look under the lid more often once this is sorted...

Very easy. Just two screws on the right and lift up the top of the filter box. Pull out the old one , put in the new one . Simple. Have you got the cupra air pipe too?

Yes, i've got the cupra intake also (as per my sig). So you don't think the upper strut brace will be in the way to change the filter? Perhaps i'm confused with something else I read.

edit: the reason i'm asking is I don't have any tools ie a wrench for the strut. :)

The air filter can be changed with the strut brace in place, but it's a real PITA and my hands still bear the scars ;) You can get away with just slackening the strut brace on the air-filter side and lifting it up, as me and Xav found when we swapped filters.... :D

Ok thanks for the tip. I'll have a look at that, I guess I need to get myself some tools or at the least a decent wrench.

I'll have a look on the web and see what I can find unless someone can recommend something.

halfords professional range!! you break it, they replace it! Can fault halfords for somethings but They're Pro Tools are ace!!!

can some kind person please point me to the right wrench for the job of loosening the strut brace. www.halfords.co.uk would be good as i'm near to a store on Friday and can pick one up. I notice they have 3 on there. Are they adjustable or one size only..

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CatalogSearchResultView?searchTerm=torque&storeId=10001&catalogId=10151&langId=-1&pageSize=12&beginIndex=0&sType=SimpleSearch&searchType=EXACT&searchTermCaseSensitive=no&searchTermOperator=LIKE&resultCatEntryType=2&resultType=2&topCategoryId=ALL

As for how tight I would do it back up, i'd just count the half turns on loosening it then do the same back plus a little more.. am I about right?

1/2" fitted for me.

My god i'm so thick I scare myself sometimes. Am I right in thinking the torque wrench you buy is just the wrench and you just use sockets from any set (as long as they are the right size of course) to get the correct size of socket you need for a particular nut. :o

torque wrench will tight to the amount of forced need and no more, and yes most sockets should fit it without a problem, if not you can get adapter.

Thanks Mike, ;)

Just bought myself a 1/2" torque wrench from Screwfix. Nice quality and you just stick on the socket for the nut (using the supplied adapter if needed) ... will apparently tighten from 20-150lb/ft so can also be used to tighten up wheel nuts correctly :D
