Battery Disconnect and Door Locking

Featured Replies

I plan to leave my Superb Elegance Estate (Sep 2012 reg) for about three months in a semi-public car park at a marina in Germany.  I would like to disconnect the battery for that period so I don't come back to a discharged battery. Despite reading the Handbook (which recommends disconnecting the negative terminal under such circumstances) I cannot find out how to lock and unlock the car while the battery is disconnected and the bonnet closed!  I would be willing to experiment, but don't like the downside consequences.  Seems a simple thing to do, but I cannot find any reference to locking/unlocking the car manually while the battery is disconnected, or dead, for that matter.  Any suggestions?

There's a section on emergency locking and unlocking, where you use the key for the drivers door, and flip a manual switch for doors without a bolt. It's not clear if you need the battery connected - but I suppose you could trial run at home, keeping one of the doors open just in case :)

Why not put it in storage - then they will keep it on a charger, and get it up to temperature every fortnight or so, to keep everything lubricated, incl air con.

Or you could get a solar charger for the car to keep the battery topped up, or get a battery powered jump starter - something like the NOCO genius.

Pop the bonnet, lock the doors with the internal locking, get out, disconnect battery, and remove the sliding bit next to the drivers door handle, instructions in hand book, buy pulling the handle out slightly and the cover next to it slides off, towards the rear, insert key lock door and slide cover back on
