When starting car there is a screech noise!

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Am new to this site and am looking for some help/info. When I start my car there is a screech noise, only for a second or two. Almost like something is slipping, I'm not sure if this is a belt or maybe something mechanical with the starter motor?

I'm  guessing its related to the starter as it only happens on ignition. Just hoping some one has any ideas on what it is and how it can be rectified.

Thanks

It's quite common, caused by dust build up in the starter motor.

Im guessing it should be possible to clean it off in-situ then? Maybe blown with some compressed air?
