Fabia s radio replacement

Featured Replies

Hi guys, just wondering really if anyone knows if its possible to upgrade/ replace the standard radio unit in the fabia S trim?

Thanks in advance!

Is that the "Blues" radio or the "Swing" radio?  Base model here in IRL has Blues !

Blues looks like a Single DIN size unit, fitted into a Double DIN space (upper part of space is a storage area), whereas Swing unit is a full Double DIN.

Some gumph on the ICE thread ( http://www.briskoda.net/forums/forum/7-in-car-entertainment-ice-and-security/ ) - if aftermarket - then seems some OK options out there - Kenwood, Pioneer, Alpine etcc.. If it's another Skoda/VAG unit you're looking for - then the car has to be coded to radio (or vice versa - or both!). Some say it can't be done - but looking at ICE thread - then it seems to be not a major problem getting coding done ( http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/357046-problems-getting-the-radio-code-for-amundsen/ ).

That's as far as my reading of situation has gone so far.

It is the double din unit so I guess its the Swing? I guess i am just stuck until someone release a facia adaptor for the fabia 3?  I have a pioneer double din unit in mind. Cheers

I think the double DIN is fairly standard piece of equipment, so you should be able to get your Double DIN radio of choice and just replace the unit (or single DIN and adapter). Disclaimer: It is nearly 15 years since I was last fiddling with car audio, so things might have changed. Also I have no idea on which radios are compatible with the steering wheel controls (if you have those), but since the VAG group has been using the double DIN an probably the same interface for years already, I guess there are good replacement radios out there.

It won't be possible unless you have very deep pockets. The new Fabia uses the electronics from VW's new MQB platform. These electronics use component protection to prevent units being stolen from higher spec cars and sold on the black market and ebay to end users. Dealers can disable this component protection but are unlikely to play ball, as the manufacturer prohibits this.
