Hi all

Just tried out my VCDS for the first time.

First and only thing I've tried to do so far is switch staging on.  Thought I would go for something simple and harmless and fun to start with (and something to impress my son when I next give him a lift)

Followed instructions as found elsewhere in this forum

- 17 Instruments

- 10 Adaptation.

- Found staging and set it to active.

- Exited VCDS, unplugged my cable

Then switched the ignition off and on and ............  nothing.  Well, not exactly nothing, a little click, but other than that nothing.

Did it all again and set it to not active.   Switched ignition off and on, no click.

Did it all again and set it to active.  Switch ignition off and on, click, but no needle sweep as I was hoping for.

Am I doing something wrong ??

Is the needle sweep perhaps not available on all makes/models  ???   Although, I assumed that as I had the option to change it then it is an available option

Any advice much appreciated

Cheers

1st things 1st,

The No.1 thing you should be doing is scanning the car and saving a copy of the scan.

This will store all the current codes of the car... just in case!

What car are you trying to do this on?

On some later cars it is now called “Indicator Celebration”

Did you save the changes before exiting?

If he found 'staging' then it's probably an earlier model car and the needle sweep may not work (despite being shown as available).

Octavia 2.0TDI Elegance estate, 2012, 61 reg

Thanks Gizmo68.  Good call.  Will do that.

I work in IT, have done for squillions of years, I should know that  :-)  Just got a bit excited and wanted to have a play :-)    It's the only setting I've fiddled with so far..........

KBPhoto.  Yeup, I definitely saved the changes.   I did go back and re-try just to make sure I had :-)    The "click" makes me think it's possibly not an option on my car.

Cheers

I'd expect a 2012 Octavia to be able to do it, especially if you have Maxidot (which I'd expect an Elegance to have).

Have you looked under adaptations for 'Indicator Celebration' as Gizmo68 suggested?

In the adaptions list, how did you make the change to think that you had activated it? I don;t recall it being a tick box that you needed to activate, but a change from '0' to '1' the press 'Set' and then 'Save'.

Think I might have to go and have a look at mine to see how I did it...

Also, staging works only on the first use of the ignition after closing the door. Turning the ignition off and on again does NOT sweep the needles.

Woohoo.  Thanks all.   It was a simple case of closing the door    :-)

Am happy now, it works fine.  With no more fiddling since yesterday, that was just Staging that I made active.  And this time I closed the door before I  switched the ignition on.

How can such a simple and useless feature make me smile so much !?!?!?!

Fanx for the advice Gizmo, will definitely run a scan and save a copy before I make any other adjustments

Thanks again all

G
