ISP staff leaking user details to nuisance callers ?

Featured Replies

As a BT Infinity user, I can't help but notice recently how signing-on to the internet on either my desktop or tablet is quickly followed by an incoming nuisance call from one of our sub-continental cousins. I don"t answer any of these calls - if I don't recognise the number on caller ID.

Has BT got a real security problem, courtesy of their sub-continental. Call-centre staff ?

And why hasn't anybody sued the arse off them for breach of confidentiality and data protection ?

It could be you have a little malware program installed that has harvested your details, and is telling them when you go online.

Tin foil 'ats, geeeeeeeet yer tin foil 'ats 'ere,,,,,  two for a parrrrnd or one knicker each,

As for why they havent been sued, the Data Protection Act only seems to get used against the little people; the banks, NHS etc regularly break it by sending our data to India for processing.

That's true, though the public often just hit the 'agree to our t&c's' button without reading what those are or forget to tick (or un-tick) the marketing buttons which give permission for their information to be used for marketing purposes.

Actions taken by the ICO can be viewed here: https://ico.org.uk/action-weve-taken/enforcement/ and makes for interesting reading (plenty of NHS Trusts!)

My last GP surgery updated their systems from paper to computer in the late 90's, and sent everything off to India to be typed in to the new system.

According to what was sent back, I was a woman needing heart medication and hormone replacement therapy.

I have also spent FIFTEEN YEARS trying to get an incorrect diagnosis removed from my notes, to no avail.

Coincidence nick
