Wax / Sealant

Featured Replies

I understand that the way to do things is wax on top of sealant, and not the other way around.

So...

If I spray my wet (just washed) car with `AG Aqua Wax`, would it then be wrong to dry it and then give it a coat of BSD...which I believe is a Sealant?

Many thanks

Mike.

Maybe ...but why use both?

Why not use the BSD as the drying aid..I do (Spray onto a wet car and dry off as normal)

Then add some slickness with the AGAW if you want to...but not necessary

I would say the AW needs the water to activate it possibly?

You could use the BSD as a drying aid/sealant as Chris suggested then add a "wax" on top if you wished.

It doesn't need to be activated Coops

Is it just a mis-titled Sealant then? If it were me, I would dry with Megs Last Touch then apply BSD.

I've done that.  Not had either long, used the AGAW once and thought it fabulous, then bought BSD to use as a QD..... Just to try really.  Tried when it arrived on the bonnet and half the roof.  No visible difference in shine but in morning dew I could just see the difference on the 2 halves of the roof so the BSD is still there.   It's only been 500 miles, no rain, a month of garaged nights and about 4 nights outside though.   It will get a wash tomorrow night if the weekend and if that reveals anything odd I'll post back.

Shame you aren't London based.... It's going to take me a lifetime to use 5l of BSD, but my obsessive need to get a 'bargain' meant I couldn't stomach buying 750ml!

I don't believe the OP has any

Thanks, Chaps.

phew!  that was close.  Managed the wash tonight but it was a race as I could hear the predicted thunder storms rolling closer, so no photos sorry!  managed to wash rinse and dry it, get it away in the garage with the smallest drops starting, they were big drops as I locked the garage door and 2 minutes after being inside the heavens opened!

Anyway, I can report there is a clear difference betwen the side of the roof that had only AG Aqua wax (a month ago, over 2 month old AG EGP) and the bonnet and other side of the roof which got an additional QD with Sonax extreme BSD about a week after.  when just done there was no visual difference, both sides had a good/great shine and popped nicely (see my post in 'recently cleaned' for photos taken a few days after the QD).  As I said the car has done 500 miles, but all dry, garaged mstly but spent 4 nights outside.  it was looking very clean still.  the last night outside I got out to it early enough in the morning to see the fine dew on it still and noticed i could see the half of the roof with the bsd looked different to the other half, but with such a fine set of droplets I couldn't say one side beaded better than the other.  It was clear the BSD was still there though, unaffected by being applied over the AGAW.

Now for the wash.  quick 2 BM, very quick rinse with softened water (I have a water softener, so all my hot water is softened) and a super quick chamois racing the rain!  The dirt, the little there was, washed off every where without difficulty.  even a few treesap spots and stickyness it had picked up in places when being serviced this week.  I noticed no particular diference here betwen AGAW and BSD treated parts.  HOWEVER,  as soon as i started to rinse it the water beaded up pon the BSD treated parts, where as it was largely sheeting on the AGAW only side of the roof.  A very visiuble difference clearly showing the BSD still there after the wash, and also making me thing the BSD is far better at beading than the AGAW.  both then chamois dry very easily...far easier come to think of it than when the car has had just AGERP alone.

I'm sure if i hadnt managed to beat the downpour, now its passed I'd be out and taking beading shots and I bet both sides would be beading very well, but there would be a clear difference.

based on that, I'd say AGAW to dry, then QD with BSD is fine, but when my AGAW is used up (which will be ages as you need so little) I'll use diluted BSD as my drying aid.

BTW, for drying aid use, how much should the BSD be diluted?  1:3?  1:4? 1:9? water : sonax

beading in the rain last saturday (still falling as witness by SWMBO in the background under the brolly...note the look of 'you love that car morethan me' on her face  :notme: )

whole car had, by now, almost 4 month old AGEGP, almost 2 month old AGAW, half the roof and the bonnet also got a QD  of Sonax BSD over that about 6 or 7 weeks ago.  its been washed once and covered about 750 miles since then.

BSD side = brilliant beading (got better shots of it on the bonnet...then in my faffing on google I managed to delete it, oops)

AG only side = shoky beading.  still there, still beading a bit, but not great.

clearly BSD sticks fine on AGAW is my conclusion  (and also AGAW is a bit carp compared to BSD)

Bottom line, the word before AGAW...is that supposed to be `on` rather than `of`? Just to be clear.

damn, I thought I'd spotted and edited that before anyone noticed!  yes, 'On' sorry.

  • 1 month later...

Just to update. I've not yet for round to proper detailing the roof and bonnet and because I've been meaning to I've not bothered reapplying any AGAW or BSD.  Roof and bonnet still beading as well as in the photos above.   So both products seem to last.
