issue with 32gb SD card

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

First post to the forum, even though I've recently purchased my 2nd skoda :)

Got the Superb SE 15 plate which I'm thinking has the columbus system in it. I've put my 32gb card in it which I used fine in my old Octavia Elegance 60 plate. Only noticed today that the file browser only goes down to the letter T! All my albums are in folders by artist and worked fine on the old unit. I was hoping to swap the card to a 64gb one as the 32 is full but surprised to find I can't play all the tracks on the 32!

Anyone got any ideas what is wrong? I didn't do anything to the card. It was swapped straight from the old car into the new one and has remained there since.

Many thanks

Have you tried plugging it into a PC to see whether all the files are still there? There's a small possibility the card has been corrupted either when it was being unplugged/plugged in or from something it was exposed to between being removed from one car and installed in the other.

Good point. I doubt that's the case but it's worth trying as a process of elimination. I'll bring it in from the car tomorrow evening and give it a go.

Thanks

Just tried it on pc (albeit using my camera to read the card as that's the only device I have to read or write to it). It sees all the files and I tested one that wasn't visible in the car and it plays fine.

I checked and there's a total of about 577 folders (including subfolders) of which about 490 are visible in the car.

Unsure what the issue as is the stereo in my old 60 Octavia saw them all and worked without an issue.

No idea then - it could be firmware, but the car it's not working on is newer then the one it was working on...

4.5 years newer too.

I've no idea either. I'm speaking to the dealer and will update the thread if I get any further in resolving.

Thanks

Spoke to a helpful guy at the dealership today. He did some digging and found there is a software update available which apparently addresses issues with the SD slot. I'm hoping this will resolve it but it'll be a while before I find out as I don't want to take it there (about 12 miles away) and leave it there for such a minor thing. Will get it done on 1st service.

A small update. I recently purchased a 128gb SD card as there was one for a good price. After some teething issues with getting the plsyer to read the card I had some success, but still only able to see a limited number of folders. However when I looked at the contents of the final folder all the songs are there. So I tried a little experiment. I put another 17 tracks in there and I can still see all the tracks. This suggests that it is almost definitely a limitation in the number of visible folders rather than the number of files.

Can't see me getting any further now until the firmware upgrade at next service!

The limitation for the Columbus with files on the SD card is 512 folders / 2048 files...... I suspect you are maybe hitting the file limit as you say it shows 490 of approx 577 folders. I believe this limit has always been in play and I'm pretty sure has never been changed with any firmware updates.

The other thing to remember is that the Columbus only plays mp3 and wma files so anything else like itunes aac files won't show up on the Columbus.

Don't forget that the Columbus in your 15 plate car is actually 2008-ish technology.

Thanks WaveyDavey. Is it a different player to the one I had in my 2010 Octavia? The interface appears the same but that one saw all the files and folders without any problem.

Thanks

I'm not sure. Was the other unit visually exactly the same as this one? If so it's very strange that the old unit read all the files with the file and folder limit etc.....

Have you also tried asking in the ICE section as there are a lot of very very knowledgeable members on there that know a lot more about the Columbus than I do.

It looked visually very similar as far as I can remember. Certainly the screen interface was identical.

I'll post in the ICE section later. Thanks for the tip!
