What tint level to go for?

Featured Replies

Evening gents, I have found a company locally to me that can tint my car. They apparently do all the work for two known garages round here for retrofit tints and when the garage offer the option out. They are meant to be really good and having booked in for Friday the price is reasonable also. My main concern is the percentage level of tint to be applied on the rear 5 windows. He suggested 15% but I know factory sunset glass is 35%. Has anyone been in this position and do you have pictures (my search on here has been fruitless) any input regarding the above would be appreciated as I have 3 days to decide what level to go for.

Thanks

Don't forget standard glass is already lightly tinted so any film matching sunset spec will appear darker.

I'm edging towards the 35% as don't want it to look limo black

I have sunset + 13% tints. It is dark :-). 35% sounds about right if you don't want limo style

Isn't sunset 35%? Do you have any pictures of your tints stall?

Assuming you mean 15% visible light transmission?

I have 20% VLT (a fraction lighter).  It's fantastic on bright sunny days but during rain, overcast, night driving etc it's almost a pain.  If I was doing it again, I'd probably go with 30-35%.

One thing to consider is how good your night vision is.  I'm in my 50s and while my night vision has deteriorated in the last 5 years, it's still better than most of my contempories.  If you have poor night vision then don't go too dark.

Thanks Brad, my night vision is ok currently so the darkness shouldn't cause a great deal of problems. I'll only be doing the windows behind the B pillar so the fronts won't be touched, which I believe is legal. If i add 35% to the standard windows I think that will be about 30% as you say VLT as the % is measured in what amount of like they let pass so the less % the less it lets in IIRC Thanks gents
