Erratic idle

Featured Replies

Hi folks

Recently purchased an 09 octavia ii vrs tfsi ccza

On way home yesterday once the car had warmed up the idling became erratic, with no throttle applied going up to 2000rpm then back down to normal (900ish) and sometimes somewhere In between then tracking slowly back down to 900. Dashboard engine light came on near end of the run. Light stayed on while re starting (engine still hot) and idling issues continued. when in neutral I tried giving it a bit of throttle then letting off, and noticed a slight sputter from exhaust when I released the accelerator. When turning engine off there's a sputter too.

When in gear and driving it seemed ok

Recently purchased a second hand v checker so plugged it in. I'm not really familiar with the v checker yet, but it connected ok but it detected No fault codes. Is engine light not necessarily a fault code?! Not sure what to look for now.

Cheers

Get it checked with VCDS. Do a search on the VCDS owners map, there will be someone near you with it. How many miles has the engine covered. Your fault (on the limited information supplied) sounds like the inlet manifold carbon build up problem.

75k on the clock.

Try searching on Split DV or something similar, I'm sure I've read that that can cause erratic idle.

Thanks for suggestions folks! Spoke to the dealer i got it from - turns out he offers a free 3mo warranty on all car sales (and i didn't even know about this!)

Anyway took it and had it checked out - there was a split on a rubber coupling on the air intake downstream from airflow sensor, so was taking in un-accounted for air.

Patched it up with superglue and duct tape, pending a replacement coupling coming on tuesday.

When i bought the car they had to replace the brake servo (i noticed a hissing noise) before i purchased. Apparently this involved moving the engine slightly off its mounts, during which i guess the coupling could have torn.

Problem solved :D
