Has someone received car with Apple Carplay/Android Auto?

Featured Replies

Hey, so as we know after week 22, all cars will have possibility of Apple Carplay and Android Auto. Has anyone received a car with these systems yet?

I am receiving my car in about one month, the production will happen on 29th week. I'm looking forward for the infotainment system and it would be nice to know how is the new system working.

  • I've got mine today finally. It's with SmartLink. Didn't had time to take pictures. I've tried both systems, briefly.

  • Well google doesn't have much info on what's going on when you connect your phone. But I find it very unlikely that's the difference between a smartlink bolero and a standard unit is only software. No

on which system exactly? bolero or higher?

I got a Fabia estate with smartlink bolero for delivery in week 26.

It also happens that i got a Sony z3. So i should be able to test both Android auto and smartlink

Mine should arrive soon, it has been built in week 23. I don't know yet when, though. I will call tomorrow.

It is interesting that no other site says that Skoda Fabia has Android auto and Apple carplay, they only list Hunday Sonata.

Why would Skoda miss such a hugh marketing oppurtinity....

Dvinge, I think I speak for us all when I say we would love to hear all about it! And perhaps photos/videos of Android Auto in action would be ideal! Thanks in advance ;)

Waiting for feedback also

Just 2 short videos:

CarPlay (pretty useless because I had no sim in the phone and no music): https://youtu.be/NIb-9lv417s

CarPlay looks better but has no Google maps, just Apple maps.

On Android I couldn't find how to search for a contact, seems to be less user friendly.

I didn't had time for more, sorry, it was a very busy day. Waiting for Dvinge :)

Looks promising!

Its funny really, all these linking apps - mirrorlink, Android Auto and Car Play seem to only work with Smartlink which really just a Wifi dongle as far as I can tell, yet all the advertising blurb for all of them only talks about a USB connection, which doesn't work. And probably never will. I'm not sure how I would react if I was a lawyer. As an old fartypants who's happy to get from A to B without killing anyone, I just have to smile and shrug.

Well I only got an Android phone (Sony z3) but carplay look's slightly more smooth in your videos.

I will probably get some issues with Android auto, because it isn't available for Denmark at the moment. But a little tweaking should do it. :)

NIce videos :) Thanks... mine is week 19 so doesn't support Smartlink and these skoda uk Idiots are if no help. Maybe there will be a fix in the future.

Multa bafta si drumuri bune!

Got the car today. And very happy with it. Tried out Android auto, and worked perfect. Used Google maps navigation for a 60km trip with Spotify music, and it just worked flawlessly. Only problem I'm having so far is that I ordered the car with Skoda sorround, but it is grayed out in the audio settings

Right, I have your back with this one!

You cant turn it on through conventional ways, if you try the radio and see if you can turn it on that way, you should find that you can turn it on. I had a load of issues with surround sound but realised I couldn't enable it whilst using USB.

Thanks blakeo

Haven't been using the radio much because I only have FM radio in the car and the sound quality is really poor compared to Spotify. Skoda should probably mention the requirements for enabling it in the users handbook. Anyways I really like the sound from the speakers, but will try to enable it later :)

So how are the impressions after some days, everything working fine with Android Auto? How is the smoothness, does it lag?

Some "random" thoughts:

- Having Google Maps on the car it's really awesome, it's better than any other navigation app/system.

- I still can't find a way to search for contacts to call, there's just a list with latest calls.

- I haven't found how to change the sound volume in Google Maps, it was louder than the radio. I did manage to change it somehow, but I don't know what I did.

- It does lag, but not that much, it's usable.

- It doesn't always start by connecting the phone, some times I have to open the Android Auto app (which, somehow, it's only available in few countries but can be downloaded from apk mirror - nothing illegal here)

- if you switch to the radio, there's no direct back button to the Android Auto interface, you will have to use the touchscreen to go back. Would have been nice to just press a button on the infotainment system. Receiving a call during this time, will use the car infotainment system, instead of the Android Auto phone interface (and I can't manage to sync my S6 edge contacts with the car contacts, which is something different than the Android Auto contacts, which show up with name and picture)

- I haven't tested Google Music (or how is it called), but I've seen it on youtube videos and it looks good

- I don't know how to find more Android Auto apps in Play Store, the link to them returns a 404 (not found), probably because of limited country availability

No lag with my phone. I really like Android auto, so the first thing I do is connect my phone when I sit in the car. There are some minor things I hope get sorted out. It seems like there is no contact list only recent calls, you can use the voice thing to call a contact, but Danish names and English voice recognition is apparently not so good :p and that is the main theme in Android auto, more voice integration and less finger input. Properly good for you native English people, but not so good for Danes who listen to wierd artists and have friends with names that sounds like English dishes. Anyway it is a very fine car system, and it's still pretty new, I'm sure it only will get better.

Zup

Download the compatible apps yourself from playstore. The apps are listed at Android auto homepage.

Android auto starts whenever I connect my phone. However I get some annoying smartlock Bluetooth thing popping up on my phone screen now and then, but should be fixable with some googling.

Hello Dvinge and Zup, i'm wondering what is  the kind of connection between android auto and the smartphone.

Because i see some people say that is use a wireless connectivity. but Dvinge you specify that you connect the phone when you sit in the car.

so i conclude that if it is wireless you wouldn't have to do that, like bluetooth. Or am i wrong ?

Thanks !

I'm guessing using Google maps navigation through the system (or any other) relies on your phone being connected to mobile data all the time ?

what happens if you lose reception?

how much data does a typical 30 min or 1hr journey with Google maps nav use up ?

If you don't want to paying for so much constant use of mobile data internet all the time, but you want SatNav in your Fabia 3 do you just have to buy a TomTom/Garmin standalone ?

Smartlink only works with USB. Data usage for google maps is 300mb since I got my car (got it week 27) it looks like google maps caches the data it needs so if you loose signal it will carry on. In perspective Spotify have used 5gb, but you have the opportunity to download songs for offline use.
