Flickering headlights

Featured Replies

Hi I asked this question on a more unrelated post and got a mix of answers so I'll be more specific here.

My 2000 Skoda fabia comfort 1.4 16v needs the steering angle sensor replacing due to intermittent power steering and a continuous engine light (had a diagnostic at my skoda dealership). That's been booked in but for the last few days whilst driving with them on my lights have been flicking (from dim to normal) - this also includes the dashboard back lights. There is a slight squealing noise each time this happens and the frequency varies from 2 flickers per second to one every 5-10 seconds.

I just want to know if there's any possibility this could be related to the angle sensor as it seems to get worse when turning the wheel. Thanks in advance for any replies.

The squealing sounds the alternator drive belt is slipping.

Is the belt in good condition and under correct tension?

This might all sort itself out when the SAS is replaced, since the electric pump puts a big load on the electrical system.
