Cut-down bump stops

Featured Replies

Hello all, need some advice RE cut-down bump stops and Eibach suspension.

Booked the car in for last Saturday to get the Eibachs fitted. The garage screwed the pooch royally and didn't give me it back until Tuesday night. One of the list of things they botched up, was that they fitted the original length bump stops on the back. The grease monkey told me the cut down ones wouldn't allow the dust covers to be used. I told him this was rubbish, because the dust cover attaches to the bottom ring of the shock bush, and I had cut out one of the middle rings and rejoined the two parts with epoxy. I am right on this aren't I? the car is booked back in for tomorrow to finish the job so want to make sure I'm right!!! :D

I have pics if it will help mate

PM me an email addy mate and I'll send them over

Done, cheers. Am I right in thinking that if the bottom ring of the rear bump stop is still there, then the bump stop will still fit?

The pics should tell all :P

Waiting with baited breath, going to look like a right pleb if I've argued it out with the garage and I'm wrong...

Any good?

Haven't arrived yet. Plenty of space in my inbox, 250mb hotmail account that's only 18% full...

If you have glued the bottom of the old bump stop back onto the top after cutting out the middle section then yes they will fit back on as before.

Haven't got winzip on my work PC, will have to get them when I get home.

When I trimmed them, I trimmed the bottom on the fronts, and on the rears I trimmed a section from the middle then rebonded the two halves together (so both ends of the rear stops were just like the full length stops, just shorter in the middle). That's how it should be done, right? That shouldn't stop the dust boots from being fitted should it?

Yep, that's what I did. The dust cover only fits over the bottom ring of the rear bump stop, doesn't it? So as long as you cut the middle out, rather than trimming it from the bottom, it shouldn't stop the dust boot being fitted back on, right?

That is correct mate :)

Right then, will print this off and beat the garage round the head with it. As well as charging me

Are you sorted with the Pics Justin, or do you need me to send them again?

The bolts aren't anything special, they could have got some. I just ordered some Stainless ones from Screwfix 56p for 10. Gonna replace the security ones for ease of access if it goes to the stealer.

Pics were good, cheers. This time I'm including my case full of a couple of hundred lots of stainless nuts, bolts and washers - I'm not taking any more **** about "can't find the bolts" and I've printed off all the pictures I could find on here showing how it bolts on :D

Bet they still struggle though, idiots. Won't be taking any of my cars there in future if I can avoid it. Shame it's the only place nearby that does wheel tracking.
