Vrs eml light but no symptoms

Featured Replies

Hi, my blt engined vrs is just about to click over to 150k. Yesterday i started up from cold and eml light stayed on. I used my cheap fault code reader to check the code but only got n/a. ( it usually finds every fault code)

I noticed ive got a small coolant leak under my front bumper towards the left hand side.

Could this be the cause?

Cheers, Andy

Also i reset the light and it stayed off till tonight ( done over 100 miles ) but only comes on when i start the car.

It's a guessing game

I'll say egr valve though

If it only comes on from cold start, I'd say glow plugs - they're not really needed in this weather so you won't notice any poor-start symptoms, but the ECU powers them anyway. Pretty sure even though there's a glow plug lamp, when they die, it still lights the main EML for some reason (VWs are a bit funny with error lights, there's a couple that make absolutely no sense, like I think the glow plug light comes on when your brake pedal switch dies).
