Blue smoking exhaust

Featured Replies

The car , a tractor Scout , is running fine 08 / 94K and is very economical but just occasionally having done a short gentle run of a couple of miles , has on about three occasions after restarting , exhibited a little bluish smoke from the exhaust for about 20 seconds - after that nothing . It has spent most of it's life travelling journeys of about a 1-5 hours at near max. road speeds .

Early signs of anything ? No history of anything else .

DPF about 65% at last service .

Blue smoke usually indicates burning lubricant. If it's only appearing on start-up then there's a very small weep on either the valve stem oil seals or the turbo seals. Keep an eye on the oil consumption for now.

As above, my guess would be turbo seals.

The cams can be a weak point on the PD engined Scout (8V SOHC), not sure if these wearing could result in smoke from the exhaust?
