Oil leak 2007 tdi vrs

Featured Replies

Hi I've got and oil leak somewhere around the alternator area, it's covered all around it, the oil seems to be all clumpy and not just spread about as I'd expect? I can't see where it's coming from any ideas would be gratefully received .

Any pictures that you can share with us?

It could be splashing onto the auxillery belt and splashing up everywhere. I had this on my Dads Megane last year. It took me ages to find it. It eventually turned out to be coming from a seal near the bottom.

More likely to be the inlet manifold, there is a vacuum valve and it comes from where the rod goes in to operate the swirl flaps, mine did it, there is a modified manifold, got mine from German auto spares in Swindon cheaper than the main stealer.

Trev I think It may be that. I looks likes its next to the manifold and has a big black thing sticking out which I guess it's from there. How much we talking ?

That's it, I paid £450 for mine 2 years ago, stealers want £650+, just for a bit of plastic LOL:), but the new part has a guide a the end to stop the arm rubbing on the timing belt cover.

Will see if I can find the website again and report back.

Update just had a look and the part no is 03G 129 711 AS and the price has come down a bit, it's only £397.91 and they are in stock.

Takes about 20-30 mins to swap over, there is a hidden bolt behind the throttle body, you have to remove it to get at it, it will be hidden in all the gunk, mine was anyway.

Hope this helps, any problems give me a shout.

Will it have any impact if I leave for a bit ? Also has anyone tried fixing it ? Also thanks for helping

It will probably get worse as time goes on, mine got to the point I was cleaning it off with brake cleaner every 2 weeks!!, doubt if it can be fixed, looked at my original and the rod looked pressed on and there was play in it too not much but enough and the timing cover had a gouge in it too, that's ok that's what the forum should be about.

What site is it ?

Their website is www.germanautopartsdirect.co.uk and look under engine parts.

Hope this helps, oh and alternators don't like oil on them, as I found out years ago with a MK2 golf, they always leak oil just above the alternator, due to the head gasket leaking oil.

Hi trev what's the best way to fit it when I get round to it ?

Dan

Hi Dan

I took of the vacuum line first, then the bottom air pipe (pull clip forwards) and disconnect, take EGR off then throttle body, not forgetting the EGR connection on the side, I had to take a small hidden bolt off to give more clearance to move the EGR pipe, then just go hunting for the bolts that hold the manifold on not forgetting the hidden one in the throttle hole.

Its a good idea to clean the EGR while you got it apart, mine was caked in carbon, when refitting do all the bolts loose that way you have some wriggle room they should be 20Nm.

Any problems give me a shout.

Hi trev tried attempting this tonight , where is the hidden bolt for egr pipe as I gave up

Hi Dan,

Follow the pipe from the EGR round the bend around the engine block, and there should be a tab and the bolt is there its a 12mm if I remember, and to get it off I used some paper to pack the socket out so I wouldn't loose it, would take a photo but it hosing down at the moment.

Did you give up on the dual zone AC?
