Smart light assist with Lane assist and BSD

In the configurator if you select the Smart......it disables

post-22021-0-64396800-1436795809_thumb.png and post-22021-0-55456300-1436795823_thumb.png

but if you select  "Light assist with Lane assist and BSD" both

post-22021-0-64396800-1436795809_thumb.png and post-22021-0-55456300-1436795823_thumb.png remain selectable.

And this is the more expensive option?

My opinion is the configurator is wrong. It should also be greying out 'Lane assist and Blind spot detection' and 'Light assist with high beam control' if 'Light assist with Lane assist and BSD' is selected. I think this option is the two of those combined (£850 + £250 = £1100). However, 'Smart light assist with Lane assist and BSD' seems to be the better option and costs less at £950.

If you take a look at the brochure http://www.skoda.co.uk/SiteCollectionDocuments/Brochures/superb-2015-price-list.pdf on page 32 descriptions are given as follows:

Lane assist and Blind spot detection Lane assist is a camera-based function which is designed to keep the vehicle within its lane and, if necessary, alert the driver of an unwanted lane change. Blind spot detection uses a radar to prevent the driver from failing to notice a car in the blind spot behind or beside the car and, if necessary, provide a warning signal to the driver in the outer corner of the wing mirrors. Only available in combination with electrically adjustable front seats.

Light assist with high beam control Assesses the light conditions and traffic situation and automatically switches on and off the high beams. Only available in combination with Bi-Xenon headlights.

Smart light assist Uses the multifunction camera to detect when to switch between low and high beams automatically and prevents other drivers from being blinded by the vehicles lights. Also adds further decorative illuminated LED strips to the headlights for a more distinctive look. Includes Lane assist and Blind spot detection. Only available in combination with electrically adjustable front seats and Bi-Xenon headlights.

I posted my theory on this for the L&K trim here: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/362212-uk-configurator/page-2#entry4306418

According to the brochure...

Lane assist and Blind spot detection

Lane assist is a camera-based function which is designed to keep the vehicle within its lane and, if necessary, alert the driver of an unwanted lane change. Blind spot detection uses a radar to prevent the driver from failing to notice a car in the blind spot behind or beside the car and, if necessary, provide a warning signal to the driver in the outer corner of the wing mirrors. Only available in combination with electrically adjustable front seats.

Standard on L&K, £850 option for SE & SE L, not an option for S.

Light assist with high beam control

Assesses the light conditions and traffic situation and automatically switches on and off the high beams. Only available in combination with Bi-Xenon headlights.

Not an option for L&K or S, £250 option on SE and SEL.
Configurator says its a £250 L&K option, brochure says no it's not.

Smart light assist

Also adds further decorative illuminated LED strips to the headlights for a more distinctive look. Includes Lane assist and Blind spot detection. £100 option on L&K*, £950 option on SE and SE L, not an option for S.

The L&K already has most of this as standard, so you'd actually just be adding automatic switching of the main beam.

So, depending on your base model, it's a game of swings and roundabouts. Depending on the options you choose in the configurator determines which other options (like xenon lights, electric seats, etc) need to be added (or removed) to enable your selection.

The brochure, while full of errors, makes more sense for the assists than does the configurator.

Ooops, l4wrence already answered whilst I was still typing!

The LED strip DRLs are standard with the Bi-Xenon I thought.

Wonder if this could be activated with VCDS in the same way as the Octy III ?

They are referring to the 7 additional LED strips

“Also adds further decorative illuminated LED strips to the headlights for a more distinctive look"

oh :notme:

What annoys me is all these so called reviews show you all these lovely features and so I think - yeah, I'll get the L&K 280 at £36K. It's just in my budget and I get like everything thrown in. Then, low and behold, the stuff you think comes standard is all suddenly optional extras. So, when I finally spec up what I really want it's 41K. Now I am banking on online dealer discounts to get my spec back down to my target or wait longer to save.

What did seem like a good deal is now turning into something which is more than I'm prepared to pay. I just hope come Feb / March 2016 when I have the dosh I can get the discount I want! Let alone the amount of 'homework' I've had to do to work out what options are correct because of so many errors both in the configurator and the brochure. I haven't even owned a Skoda yet and I am already getting involved in their 'car politics' because they (or maybe Skoda UK) don't seem to have a firm grasp of getting things right.

The problem is I hear it's similar for other brands. I don't earn a fortune so this is a MASSIVE deal spending this money. I want to get it right - don't Skoda?

Probably, if you have the multi-function camera installed.

From the Škoda Superb safety features page...

Light Assist

This system automatically turns the high beam off and on.

The multi-function camera recognises oncoming traffic and vehicles ahead in the darkness and Light Assist automatically dips the beam.

Light Assist automatically controls use of the high beams. Starting at speeds of 60 km/h, it automatically turns on the high beam when it is dark enough outside. If you are closing in on a vehicle ahead (or if there is an oncoming vehicle), the system automatically dims the headlights so as not to dazzle other road users.
