Brake sizes

Featured Replies

Bit of a geeky question I know, but does anyone know what size brake discs are used on different models in the range ?

Haven't seen the info anywhere in the brochure, but I could have missed it (and it might be wrong anyway :) )

I think that your question is not geeky at all. I have also tried to findout brake disc size of 280ps version, and my motive is to try to compare it to my current car (vRS Octavia 3). It really ****es me off that this info is not available...

+1

Because I want to know if my S2 16" winter wheels will fit the S3 280.

I suspect probably not on the assumption it will have beefed-up brakes (like the S2 3.6).

I did ask my dealer but the answer was "Won't know 'till it gets here".

I have read on a german forum (through translator) that the 220 (petrol) needs 17” wheels to clear the front brakes, I am not surprised that the 280 will need 17” wheels.

I too have been trying to find out this info for the 190 as I currently have a set of 16” alloys and winter tyres that I imagine will not fit.

I have considered the 280, but £1,500 more to buy (granted that was against a 2WD 190, so it’s only really £900 dearer than the 4WD 190) more to tax and insure would be just about acceptable... however the extra 20mpg I will lose over the 190 just doesn’t make sense when I will be doing 20K miles a year in it.

I've just had confirmation from Škoda UK to confirm what I suspected, that 16" wheels will not fit the 280.

Not only that, but S2 wheels are not suitable for S3 as they are a different size.

I didn't specifically ask about brake sizes, so can't answer muddyboots’ original question.

Whilst not optimal, and more expensive, I will probably opt for a set of 18" winters.

Quite like the idea of the bronze Zenith wheels. Will it suit Cappuccino Beige?

Funnily enough, just had a reply from Skoda UK - to say brake size info hasn't been released, so they don't know.

It’s not surprising as the vRS Octavia needs 17” wheels, so the 220 and 280 petrol will as well, which is confirmed in the document below:

The engine codes I have so far deciphered are:

150 Petrol (1.4L) = CZEA (Needs minimum16”wheels)

150 Diesel (2.0L) = CRLB (Needs minimum16”wheels)

190 Diesel (2.0L) = DDAA (Needs minimum16”wheels)

220 Petrol (2.0L) = CHHB (Needs minimum17”wheels)

280 Petrol (2.0L) = CJXA (Needs minimum17”wheels)

The MKIII uses: (from page 262)

ET40 (7x17”)

ET41 (6½x16” & 6½x17”)

ET44 (8x18) & 8x19”)

Whereas the MKII uses:

ET45 (7x16” & 6x17”)

ET46 (7½x18”)

ET49 (7½ x17”)

ET50 (6x16”)

Note that although some of the MKIII’s can still use 16” wheels the tyre size has increased to 215/60/16”

However I would want confirmation that the MKIII still uses a centre bore of 57.1mm (compared to some of the newer Audi’s that now use 66.6mm) before buying some winter wheels.

Great info Gizmo. Sad reflection that almost all the best information is coming out of Germany.

I've got the part number for the wheels I'm interested in from the German Superb III accessories brochure, as per my earlier post.

As they're only for the Superb III one has to assume they'll fit.

They're €265. Will check later in the week if dealer can order and what the UK price is, then order the rubber from MyTyres.

Expensive option but as they'll be on for at least 5 months, November to March, I don't want anything that looks skank.

Do you have a link to the brochure? I have only seen then for the MKII currently.

It is a bit of a pain that all the info is from Germany... but to be expected as they have had the car for a few months IIRC now.
