Hello - First ever Skoda - EXCITED! : )

Featured Replies

Hi Everybody

At some point early next week I will be ditching my Astra and picking up my first Skoda and I'm pretty excited about it! (can you imagine anybody saying that 20 years ago?)

She is a CR diesel powered VRS estate on an 09 plate and is number 485 of the 500 limited edition cars they built before doing the facelift.

Being honest, I'm still not 100% convinced about the multi-spoke alloys but I can't see me ever changing them (maybe a powder coat at some point?).

The last time I was member of a group like this was when I had my mk3 VW Polo GT (and another couple of old Polos before that).

I'm sure this group will be full of equally awesome people!

I see a couple of nice Fabias driving around together near to home. Wonder if it's anybody on here?

Anyway... hello everybody. I'm sure I'll post all sorts of annoying technical questions later on, although I really hope I don't have many to ask. That's why I bought a Skoda and not a French car!

Chris : )

Welcome to the forum Chris. Yes it is a really friendly place on here, you'll make many friends. Lovely looking car you have there.

I see you are in Teesside -- I'm in Whitby, and have full VCDS and VCP diagnostics, and you are more than welcome to nip down to get your car plugged in.

Regards

Mike

Hi Mike (and Paul), thanks for the welcome!

I didn't even know what VCDS was until I starting reading the posts on here. It seems to be mentioned a hell of a lot.

When doing a bit of research for my old Astra people mentioned the Tech2 but nowhere near as often as VCDS get's talked about.

I have a cheapo ebay ODB reader that I bought so I could reset the EML after blanking off the EGR.

So, I've had the car a few days now and so far I am loving it.

I'm sure I'll wish it was faster when my brother comes up from Portsmouth next week in his newly acquired A4 3.0 TDI V6, but it's more than quick enough for me.

I am ultra paranoid about little vibrations and noises. I can't help it but every car i have i spend half my time convinced there is something wrong.

With the Astra I was told the DMF was on it's way out but although it might have been, I was convinced there was other stuff going on.

I've already picked up on some little things with the Octavia. It has 18" wheels and low profile tyres so I would expect the ride to be quote hard.

But it feels like there is a bit of vibration when you get above 60mph. It's nothing terrible and I've (on private road of course) tested it to 120mph and it's still not too bad.

Might be the tyres or a tiny bit of play in a track rod end... I will take it to my usual mechanic for a once over.

There is a very slight 'wobble' at idle. It's not a constant vibration, just a little wobble now and again. It only does it when the car is first started.

After driving for a bit then sitting at lights etc i can't feel it. I'm sure it's very minor but like I said, I pick up on these tiny things and can't stop thinking about them.

Another thread suggests replacing the alternator belt.

I will get the engine mounts looked at. Mike, if the timing and fuel quantity can be checked with your machine then i would really appreciate it some time : )
