Front window mechanism.

Featured Replies

Hi guys.

So today my front window mechanism failed with a lovely snap followed by the window dropping into the door. The a crunching noise coming from the door when up flick the window switch.

I'm going to try and take the door apart at lunch and see whats happened but if anyone has any Information on what might of happen and a rough cost that would be great.

Cheers, Stephen

Think this is the windows regulator mate, there is a guide on how to change it on here. And if I remember correctly the part is around £35 on ebay. I've had to do both my fronts in the past. I'm sure someone will be along with a more detailed answer soon :)

Just found the guide mate,

Hope this helps a little mate

In the guide at the point where it says 'At the back of the carrier you will see a grommet with the wiring going through it, this will stop you removing the carrier, reach upwards and unclip the connector on the door lock. This is the connector' this is an absolute swine to disconnect, save yourself a lot of hassle and time, just cut the wires midway on the door card side and reconnect with a mechanical connector when replacing the new mechanism.

Cheers guys. Got every thing dissembled. The regulator was knackered. Broken window clip and the where the cables book into the pulley wheel was shattered so the cables werent anchored so to speak.

Really can't be arsed to put it all back together so might get the parts and pay someone to do it for me. Any takers in the south. I can drive to you and will pay the going rate.

Thanks for that. I've just ordered it. I'll problaly fit it myself now.

Its easy mate, took me half an hour on sunday to do it :) got the fright of my life when it snapped though. I just drilled out rivets & use self tappers next to the rivet hole when re fitting. Sealed up holes left afterwards :)

Yeah that looks similar. My cables were like that plus a window clip was snapped in half

I'll search for part off ebay.

N what about the rivets?

Cool.

But how do you take them out?

Drill them out (i.e. drill the heads off them) :)

Drill them out. I used a 8 mm bit.

I'll have an attempt at it.

More satisfaction from it than letting someone else do it.

Won't a normal rivet gun be ok?

Might be if it's capable of taking 6.4mm rivets.
