Wax after respray - 6 weeks ! ?

Featured Replies

After the Ginetta imprint has been removed from my car....

This involves a new wing and rear door, presume will be sprayed.

So quick Google says wait 6 weeks before waxing, that's ages!

What say you....

If wax is a no no, how about BSD!

Waiting 6 weeks won't kill me, but be nice to crack on with winter mega clean and prep :)

Every spray booth owner that I've used had said wax it as soon as you like

Do I did... With no problem whatsoever. Modern paints I guess

have to admit i left it a month or so after i had the spoiler re-done.  The receptionist didnt exactly give me a reassuring answer though (like no-one had ever asked).  I'm assuming the solvent evaporation threads relate to the older style paint that isnt used anymore (normally).

Why not try and get the repair shop to put their advice in writing, that way if it does fail after an LSP application you've got some comeback.

Cheers. Experience from you guys beats a random Google.

Few weeks yet so more browsing to do, not as fulfilling washing damaged panels!

Just to add - the key thing is that the spray booth you use must apply the correct heat/bake process to ensure all solvents activate and gas off as expected.

If not, then by waxing you are trapping such solvents/gases under the wax or sealant. This is where troubles can arise.

As long as your repairer follows the correct processes for the products he is applying - you should be fine

I don't agree with you Samuir

If this was the case why would a reputable body shop say it's ok then?

Would anyone ask if they followed the 'correct processes'?

A friend of mine is a painter. He told me it's best to leave it 6 weeks to make sure, as Ste stated, the solvents have "Gassed Off". 6 weeks without a wax being applied shouldn't harm the paint. Can you wait that long though? I struggled! Haha.

Thanks for taking the time to reply Neil

Correct. Why would you wait for that ?..lol
