Brochure fuel consumption and emissions

Featured Replies

Superb III shows a marked improvement in the claimed fuel consumption comared with that of the previous model: Combined cycle 68 mpg for the TDI 150 against 52 mpg for S II.  There are similar improvements in CO2 figures

Now before anyone says, I know that these figures have only a limited relationship with real world figures. However, that is still a phenomenal improvement.  Brochure claims for Octavia and Passat are similar.

Is there really a huge efficiency gain in the latest models?  Or are VAG just getting more aggressive at gaming the official test to produce the best-looking figures?

The new EA288 Diesel engine is a complete new design from the older engine.

Featuring lighter weight, less friction, optimised performance, economy, and emission figures.

The new cars are probably all a little lighter and more aerodynamic as well .

I'm sure VAG will also be a little better at playing the Official test procedure game .

....So a combination of all the above.

Thanks, I didn't know it is a new engine.  So there is at least there is some basis for a real improvement.

Stop-start will probably make a difference too ? I assume that wasn't available on the SII ?
