Possible wheel bearing although initially suspected driveshaft.

I have a clicking when I have left hand lock on, and almost definitely thought I had a driveshaft/cv joint issue as it was coming from the drivers side. I've changed the driveshaft tonight and the clicking is still there as before however this howling type noise is there also.

You can see in the video that it is most prominent when the wheel is being spun backwards however it does it whilst accelerating when driving.

Could it be a wheel bearing? Never known a bearing to click though, however with it doing it with left hand lock on, it would be throwing the weight to the drivers side which could be highlighting the looming problem.

I've recently installed some shortened mondeo droplinks, don't know if this could be related in any way?

Sounds like the shield on the back of the disc rubbing on it.

Put a screw driver through the gaps in the wheel and push it back and try again.

That's sorted it mate, thank you. Can't bloody believe that.

Only other thing I've noticed now though is like an induction kit type of noise since fitting this new bloody driveshaft, its like a deep echoing wooing type noise and only does it whilst accelerating slightly hard.

Can't really see how a driveshaft could make that type of noise?

I've never known a bearing to "click" either. Furbie and Octy bearings do "howl" in a manner unlike most I've had experience of though: it sounds more like a tyre that's about down to the wear bars.

Check the driveshaft isn't rubbing on anything.

Common places are the boost pipe from the turbo and rust build up on the hub where it slots in.

You might find it goes away if it's rust build up.

Well your help and advice is much appreciated. I do tend to find myself throwing money at the car at times as I'm so heavily reliant on it for work. Just wish I'd posted the bloody video on Saturday! Lol

The new driveshaft I've put on is a thinner profile to the last one so I don't think it is rubbing but I will certainly check!

I've just done my front wheel bearing, if you know how to use a set of tools then do it yourself you will save a fortune. OEM part from tps is about £70 that includes the wheel bearing in the flange.

Simple how to : (not great)

1 : Before you jack the car up, loosen off the hubnut.

2 : loosen wheel bolts

3 : jack car up & remove wheel

4 : spray lots of wd40 / similar ptfe spray.

5 : on the back of the hub, loosen the two 19mm bolts holding the brake calipers on, remove brake calipar and hang it on the spring up high in the arch with a hook or something.

6 : Loosen the Nut and bolt at the bottom of your suspension / coilovers (so the hub can drop off the bottom of this)

7 : There are a couple of hoses that need to be released from the hub

8 : take the hubnut all the way off

9 : On the left / right of the hub you will see the rod that moves when you turn the hub, remove the nut on top. TIP : if this nut doesnt come off or is fooked, then raise the jack onto the bottom of the rod to hold the nut in place, this will alow you to remove the nut

Yes will definitely check that too thanks. I'll get it on the ramps on my drive tomorrow night when I get home from work.

It's quite an intrusive noise so it is definitely new. The fact it has come about since I changed the driveshaft tonight makes me suspicious it is something I've disturbed or done.

Thing is though swapping driveshaft out is so straight forward you don't really have to disturb much.

I'll take some pictures tomorrow of my findings!
