vRS Boot Open Light on Dash

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have just brought my first Skoda, a 2010 FL Octavia vRS estate after trading in my Land Rover Discovery 3 which was starting to cost me a small fortune.  So after thinking that all of my reliability issues had gone away, tonight I go to put a few items in the boot of the Octavia and after closing the boot, all of the interior lights went off after a few seconds but the red boot open light was illuminated on the dash... strange I thought so opening and closing the boot again (as I though I'd left it open) and no change, third attempt with a larger slam and finally the red light on the dash does off.

Hoping that it was a one off, I tried again and as before I found that only a large slam will remove the light on the dash.  So, I'm interested in hearing if anyone else has experienced this particular issue, and if so what was the resolution?

Thanks

Happens periodically on my LE too, park car up, spend day in work, get in to leave having not touched the boot all day and boom, maxidot says boots open. Only happened twice since I've had it. Just a case of getting out and giving it a slam. Hasn't happened since. Pain in the ass though when you just want to get home!

I'm guessing a loose connection/wire on these things?

Try a good spray of penetrating fluid into the boot lock. It could just be dirt in the micro switch.

Thank you for all of your replies so far.  Just thinking about the micro switch, wouldn't the interior lights stay on also if this was at fault?

Only the boot light - you should be able to monitor the state of the boot switch using VCDS. Have you checked that the boot is correctly adjusted ?

Ah another thought - is the rear screen washer OK as they can leak and cause issue with the boot lock switch.

After reading up some more about possible causes, when I got home from work I decided I'd try the rear screen wash. Although water came out of the washer jet, it seemed like a pitiful amount so I opened the boot and observed as a small amount of water run out from between the catch and bodywork... think I may have found the cause.

As I only brought the vRS yesterday, I have booked the car in to be fixed under warranty.  What bits should i expect to be changed to fix the problem?

Probably the rear wiper motor and if it can't be dried out the rear boot latch which contains the micro-switch for the boot light / open warning and alarm.
