Hi,

driving my superb 1.8t (55k on the clock ) this morning and suddenly the red oil symbol came on in instrument cluster. I checked the oil level and it seemed a bit low (lower marker) so I topped it up and off I went.

About 5 miles later it came on again and this time it stayed on. Got the car to the garage for them to check it out and they were unable to find any error codes and the light was off.

got the car back and sure enough the oil light came on again after a while ,I'am booking it back into the garage for a more through check. Am I likely to be causing damage to the engine by driving with the light on telling me there's a problem ?

in the meantime is there anything I can check or pointers for the garage to look at. ?

Personally i wouldnt drive it with the red oil light on, as it could be a number of potentially serious engine faults - oil pump etc.

The Owner's Manual for the Octavia includes this warning in the information included under Controls and Equipment - Oil:

If the (red) warning light comes on although the oil is at the correct level, do not continue driving. The engine must also not be run at idling speed in this case. Contact a Skoda Dealership for professional advice.

I would have the car recovered to a Skoda dealer for the problem to be investigated further and fixed.
