Shark remap - to EGR delete or not?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Been lurking for a few years and this is my first post  !

Recently got a 2005 Fabia VRS, 28k on the clock (previously 1.0 Polo, Golf Mk 4 TDI 130). After having read lots of good reports, I'm having a remap done by Shark together with an STS box. Should I have them include an EGR delete in the map? They'll do it at no extra charge but advise that I should also physically remove/blank it. Trouble is I'm not much good under the bonnet! Does anybody foresee any problems in having it disabled in the software but physically left in place?

The other advantage I saw in this approach is that should I ever want/need to revert the car to original condition, I can re-load the original map with the STS box and EGR will still be in-situ.

Am I missing anything?

Suggest you talk to Faboka on here regarding the merits of mapping out vs removing the EGR, and also supplying a custom map as all indications are that he is the "go too" person for remaps, with a fantastic reputation. I also think that he will give you the option to revert back to the standard map whenever you want. Also, given the limited mileage that the car has done, I do not think that you would be anywhere near the stage where EGR valves cause problems.

Delete it and if it's still it a good usable condition then you can keep it and re-fit when you come to sell the car and even sell the EGR delete too.

I don't really know the science behind it but I know their is a reason so many have deleted beside it being faulty.
