Excessive Fuel Consumption

Featured Replies

Hi - recently had an accident in my fabia where some ************ reversed into my fabia!!!Since then the car was taken to a main dealer and repaired however the fuel economy seems to have gone to pot. I know I want a VRS however 40 ish miles for a tenners worth of fuel!! Has anyone come across this before? Any ideas? The dealer assures me they checked the 'brain' however not convinced.....PS Some git is selling info on how to reset your service intervals counter on ebay when I was supplied it for free on these forums..........

Did the exhaust get damaged? Has performance (not mpg) been affected?

Maybe there is a restriction in the exhaust , either a kink or baffle plate come loose?

or the Lambda sensor been damaged in the bump?

Perhaps the exhaust / manifold joints got disturbed in the bump and the system is drawing in fresh air through a leak...might confuse the Lambda sensor into thinking the engine is running weak and it could be telling the ECU to increase the fuelling..you might not get a sensor warning if the sensor 'fault' is still within operating tolerances for the lambda sensors ability to compensate.

ps. makes me laugh when ever I hear of people buying the info on resetting the service interval counter....do people never read the handbook?

Performance not affected just mpg - for fear of sounding idiot Lambda sensor - thought it was a dance.

I guess you're saying is using too much fuel as you've had to refill?

No loss in performance but is there more smoke coming out?

Diesels dont have a Lambda sensor.

Hi Sorry guys 1.4 petrol model. Having some right fun with main dealer!!! They say they have checked the ECU and no faults are showing? Could it be a damaged Lambda sensor - intermittent fault. Its back in too have another check of the ECU however am little concerned ref

Sorry if this is asking the obvious, but you haven't got a leak in one of the fuel lines or pump have you?

My 1.4 MPi has only ever done 25-30mpg around town. And about 37-40mpg on the motorway. :(

Im convinced it used to be better before the dealer changed my tank sender unit. I've since had both Lambda probes changed,(banks 1 and 2) and its still the same.

Thank god mine is under warrenty at the probes are not cheap!
