steering problems different to others

Featured Replies

Hi all power steering assistance works fine on lock right hand down no problems but left hand down from wheels being straight and steering wheel between 45° and 90°left hand down the steering gets very stiff it can be turned through and then is fine again and it's fine turning back

Does anyone have any idea where to look first

Checked the fluid that's fine

Also this is not intermittent it's at the same point evry time and my headlights don't flicker

Thanks in advance

This might be a problem with the ram or ram seals, but really needs a proper mechanic (C&G 701 or equivalent, not just in house VAG "vehicle technician" courses) to look at the car.

Thank you for your reply ken I was thinking the same however I fitted a rack 15 months ago should it fail this soon ?

There are no warning lights on the dash either so I can't read a fault code for it

That makes me think seals (presume rack is reconditioned rather than brand new?), but I was thinking more that way than a bent ram since the sticky patch is only one way. (Bent ram is genuine bad luck as long as it was straight when fitted)

Yes rack is recon for a new one skoda want £1000 that's a third of the cars value and I've not hit anything hardenough to bend the ram I don't think

And are you also saying keep away from recon and get new

There's nothing wrong with a good recon unit, but there are dishonest "reconditioners" who basically just clean things and change the oil then hope.

I have no specific comment either way about operators in Staffs due to lack of personal experience with them.

you don't need to buy an new one from skoda just look online, you can find it for 1/3 the price (also new)...

Thank you for all your help I was in a bit of a rush to fix this and I fitted a rack through the night before going away in the morning but will bear that in mind for next time hopefully there won't be a next time but can never be sure

Thanks again Sam

Also for anyone with the same symptoms this solved the problem
