Maxidot phone setting - "Premium or Handsfree" ?

Featured Replies

Good afternoon,

Whilst attempting to pair my new iPhone with my Octavia (I was successful eventually thankfully), I came across an maxidot option to chose between "Premium" or "Handsfree".

Can anyone advise what is the difference and what I should select?

Apologies if this has been raised before but a search didn't come up with a answer I could relate to.

Many thanks.

Mine doesnt do that but Premium used the Nokia RSAP (a bluetooth protocol) whilst Handsfree used the more common HFP. I think an iPhone like most modern phones can only use HFP which turns the whole car into giant bluetooth headset. In Premium mode the car is a second mobile phone (with its own aerial) that borrows its identity from mobile being paired.

Many thanks for the info, TsvRS

I can't get my iPhone 6 paired to the system at all... I don't have an option to choose between Premium or Handsfree. I believe my system only offers RSAP also, as it will pair immediately to Android devices.

Premium takes full control of the phone so all calls and texts go through car not the phone... it basically shuts the phone down so no Internet etc

Handsfree uses the phone so all text messages and call go through the phone and you can still use the phone for all function I.e texting sufuring the net etc..

If that helps and makes sense...

And iPhones won't work in RSAP premium mode sorry so will need a newer BT module that offer HFP handsfree mode. It is a straight swap and less than 100 quid these days.

Any idea where to get one of those from?

EBay mate.

Search for 3c8 035 730 d or e modules, they are the ideal as they work in both modes, but they need maxi dot for pairing and a newer maxi dot at that. If you have no maxi dot or an older pre FL octavia you will need a different hfp only module 5k0 035 730 d or above or 7p6 035 730 j or above.

Thanks a lot mate. I have a FL 59 Plate, and it has Maxi Dot built in already. But how do I know if it needs a newer one?

Sorry for all the questions, it's just I spoke to Skoda and they quoted me major money to upgrade the system to work with an iPhone.

59 plate FL will be the newer one. Definitely do it yourself, it's dead easy.

Might be worth posting up a VCDS autoscan as you may have missing icons depending on the software version of your clusters.
