Just notice a load of oil on top of the engine undertray to the left of the engine as you look at the front of the car.

 

My other half said the oil light had flash on a couple of times but I said "don't be daft, I check the oil level every weekend and its fine"

 

The oil level is always near full in the two months we've had it, but its definitely oil.

 

High pressure pipe ?

 

Ideas ?

Modern engines should not leak oil from anywhere. Sounds like you need to get it checked.

Is it definitely engine oil? Not transmission oil?

Feels and looks like oil - the transmission housing is on the other side !

 

I reckon it must be a high pressure pipe that's weeping so its coming out under pressure and leaving a spread of oil, even though the dipstick hasn't moved a lot.

 

Skoda dealer here I come.

Roadside Assistance - no fault found. Removed undertray and cleaned away the pool of oil which had been sprayed around by the fan belt.  

 

Only theory is that the car was topped up at some point before delivery - but this must have been very badly as the oil was nowhere near the filler cap !

 

Will be keeping a very close eye for more oil and will deliberately 'keep the revs up' for a few days.

Lower timing cover leaks from the left hand side of the cover. Seen a fair few.

Thanks - if that's the left hand side (o/s/f) as you stand looking at the engine from the front, that could well be it !

It's leaking from timing chain cover bolt - as suggested by Flapperjack7.

 

Not enough torque or sealant at the factory ...

Result! Seems odd that the factory have not sorted this out yet then on the latest models if its a common fault.

Reading the thread it seems not to be a common fault and no one has yet told us what the dealer has done in this one reported incident?

Flapperjack7 said he had seen a fair few.

So, the dealer opened the bonnet and said it looks to be leaking from the timing case.

 

Had it the day, stripped it down and completely re-sealed all the way round. Also replace the V belt as that was contaminated from the leak / sprayback.

 

Basically not well-enough sealed at the factory (its a 15 reg)

 

 

In answer to the question, definitely not an isolated case in their experience. Any road, these things happen and the dealer was great.

No, Just recently noticed drops of oil under my 2015 Yeti, 80000 km's leaking at the top and by the sound of yours the bottom as well - 😐

Is the Oil Filter seal OK with yours and no leak there and the sump plug OK with no leak?

You need to look and see where the oil is coming from.

Looks like from the cam cover at the top and also likely the main timing chain cover as well (I’ve heard that VW don’t put enough sealant on)

 

I’ll check the gearbox as well (DSG)

 

oil filter looks good- no leaks there

The engine was built on a line over 7 years ago and has had enough sealant to keep the oil in for at least 6 years. 

Skoda build engines for the VW Group and they are in the sister brands.

In Australia in 2019 a Recall / Service campaign was called on DQ200 DSG the age yours is.

Is yours part of that and was it carried out. It is a Software Update because of pressure / heat issues that can cause cracks / leaks.

Not sure if the recall works have been done but I have been getting it serviced at Audi- I’ll check it out (have previously had the mechatronic changed under warranty before the 2019 recall)

 

timing chain hasn’t been changed, yes when there isn’t enough sealant after hundreds of heat cycles and vibration then you get leaking (if that’s what you meant)
