Non-Xenon Dipped Beams off-line

Featured Replies

Hi there

My drivers side low beam is lower than my passenger side. I have the standard lights (not xenon) with H7 bulbs.

What is the best way to match the two in line again? I have not touched the adjusters for the headlight unit itself at all as I think it is a problem with the auto levellers - is there a reset to centre type of reset in VCDS?

Appreciate any guidance.

Are you sure the bulb itself is sat right, can sometimes move and not sit square in the holder. Can't reset via VCDS as it's manual.xenon has auto levellers.

As Simon said, check the bulbs on both sides are correctly fitted. I'd also check both headlamps are properly fitted with the retaining white nuts done up.

I would then point them at a wall and make sure that you get a full range of motion from the headlamp adjustment dial next to the switch.

If only one moves then ether a motor or gear has been damaged and needs replacing.

If both move a similar amount, then use the adjusters to bring them into line. Make sure to do this as per the lighting regulations of Iceland as they may be different to the UK.

Haha, I would love to go to Iceland - if that makes a difference!

As said, the halogen light setup does not have auto levelling, so the issue is either the bulb not sitting correctly in the holder, or the light unit itself not properly installed on the sliding carrier after being removed for a bulb change.

The easiest way to alter the beam is by turning the adjuster as in this picture:

@ Rob - LOL -- OP is in Ireland not Iceland! So regs should be the same.

Thank you all for the replies.

I have now checked the bulb in how it's sitting - it seems to be properly secured. I did this with the headlight still in place and the ignition happened to be on at the time. When I was fiddling at the back end of the bulb there was a slight noise every now and again from the little black box sat beside the bulb - I assumed this to be an auto-leveller.

I will wait until dusk to have a go at adjusting - thanks for the .pdf @Mikeholroyd

I have now just noticed whilst sat looking out at the front of the car, that the passenger side projector does not sit perfectly centred in the projector shroud. There is an obvious gap to the left and towards the top of the projector, about 6mm between them from about the 8o'clock to 12o'clock position. Is this typically seen with them? It doesn't look the prettiest to be honest.

Appreciate any more help and info you might have guys.

Thanks
