1.2 timing chain replacement

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I'm curious about the longevity of the 3 pot timing chains, so I thought I'd open this thread!

If you've replaced the timing chain on your 1.2, at what mileage/years and what was the cause, if any?

Had loads of 1.2's now.

2011 Polo - failed at 26,000

2002 Polo - failed at 84,000

2006 Fabia - rattled so changed at 60,000

2005 Fabia - was fine but changed at 84,000 due to the previous polo failing at similar mileage.

That sounds horrifying. Thank you for the very nice input!

What were the "warning" signs before failing?

Rattling on cold starts more than usual.

Also a sign was cutting out straight away when starting.

Both polos that failed gave no signs though.

Other members are on 120,000 and still have no problems. I might have been unlucky and had poor serviced cars though. Oil and filter changes are important with timing chains.
