Phone repair recommendations in Manchester...

Featured Replies

My Nexus 5 went into a continuous boot loop the other day and a bit of research online pointed to the power button being the source of the issue (apparently it's not uncommon on the Nexus 5). Sadly, even though the phone is only 18 months old, it's out of warranty so Google won't do anything with it (I bought it direct from them). It needs the power button mechanism (if that's the right phrase!) replacing so I need to find somewhere that will make a decent job of doing that.

I've had a look round online and there are places that do phone repairs in the Manchester area, but there are some rather suspicious looking reviews for some of them ("Oooh they're brilliant and amazing and incredible and the best shop I've ever been in...!". And then the same reviews/reviewers pop up on several different sites giving slightly different versions of the same review!). So I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience of using a phone repairer in Manchester that did a good job for a fair price?

Thanks...

If it gets claggy, try some electrical contact cleaner,

Well, as it turns out, LG came up trumps! I tried Google support but they weren't interested as I bought it in Jan '14 so it was over 12 months old.

I was going to take it into a local phone shop when I thought I'd just try LG and see if I could get anywhere. So I went to the support section on their website and did one of those "Live Chat" things. Told the guy what the prob was and he said yes it sounds like it needs repairing then asked when I'd bought it. I told him it was Jan last year and asked him if he could give me a ballpark idea on how much it would cost to repair...and he said it would be free under warranty! Result!!  So he's sent a pre-paid postage pack to me so I can send it off to get it repaired.

So if you have a Nexus 5 that has an issue with the power button, it's definitely worth trying LG direct if it's more than 12 months old and outside the normal warranty period.

Great result that mate

For Alty - was just chipping in to say avoid Millennium Micros opposite Greenhalgh's and the repair shop on Shaws Rd next to Pi Bar  :envy:

It would have gone into either of those, and come out worse than when it went in....

Great result.

Sony were awful in this respect. Led me to believe they were going to fix the phone under warranty when the warranty had actually run out (had already been back 3 times before for the same faults repaired under warranty).

Sent it in only to get a quote back for repair costs of over £150.

Several weeks of battling with them and them even trying to charge me to return the phone to me I got them to send it back FOC.

Bought the parts off ebay and fixed it myself for about £10. Sold it on and never buying a Sony again!

Funny you mention that cos I'd walked past Millenium Micros and wondered if they could help...but some kind of sixth sense made me think otherwise!  :D

I envy your abilities....if I'd tried that, I'd have ended up with a heap of mashed phone  :D

Bad shop. Clearly that karma is in the air. You made the right call!
