The Police

Featured Replies

just had some reassuring advice from a friend of a friend in the traffic police. i have been told that in the police's point of view i took every means to secure the safety of my car. the keys were locked inside my house and there were security lights outside over the car. the police have a name for the method of taking the keys through letterboxes and catflaps etc. as soon as i remember it i'll post it on here.

by the looks of things i'm the second briskoda member in the last few weeks to have an Octy vRS stolen. just look out for your keys, i wouldn't want the same thing to happen to fellow members, keep those keys secure!!!!!

Why worry what the police say? It's the insurance company who will pay out and its them you have to please.

i guess so. but they have to take into consideration the police report. or so the insurance company told me anyway!!!

Where do you draw the line? I'd rather someone who broke in found my keys (not that anyone is gonna break in for my car! ;) ) than threatened or harmed my family. Cars can be replaced.... :D

I'd say the insurance company would find it hard not to pay out on a case like this as they can't prove that the keys were not in the house when your car was nicked. Just watch those keys in future.

My Dad had problems, car insurance said as the keys were in the house it was down to the house insurance, and they said they dont cover auto theft.

thats madness. What insurance company was that?? My car insurance covers me for theft of my car. Sure it doesnt matter how its stolen, unless I am a numpty and leave keys in the ignition or something.

A Few years back (6 -7 years ago) my then boss had his brand new BMW 3 Series nicked in much the same way. Car was never recovered but the insurance paid up.

It's not as uncommon as you may think - but sadly skoda's fall into this category.

The only problem is when you leave your keys inside the car - now that is asking for trouble.

And as for the two insurance companies bickering - get the ABI involved

Check the small print of your policy - there may be exclusions, including if the keys are stolen from your house!

When I had my octy stolen they broke into the house and stole both sets of keys which in hinsight were stupidly visable from the kitchen window.

Had no problems with the insurance (car insurance) and Churchill replaced the car within five weeks.
