Hi just picked up the Octavia on Saturday and was in sport mode yesterday. I was going about 30mph with the window down and noticed a (maybe) strange noise coming from the engine. It was a high pitched whirring kind of like the noise a golf cart makes.

When i went to normal or eco it stopped. Is this normal?

Yes it's the crappy sound generator under the windscreen, takes 10 minutes to unplug it.

The sound generator shouldn't make an external noise like that surely? I'm pretty sure my vrs tsi doesn't.

So I paid a bit more attention to what the sound was and what I was doing. It seemed much more prevalent at lower speeds. Could it just be the noise it makes at higher revs as it's holding it longer?

There is a slight whining noise in the lower gears at higher rpm, if your in sport mode with dsg its going to rev the pants of it even when your crawling along.
