track rod ends

Featured Replies

Hi all, i've got 2 skodas, whch ill be introducing myself with after wriing this post, but this post is urgent so i'll write this first.

The furby has just failed its mot on track rod ends having free play and leaking grease.

Ive ordered the track rod ends, hoping the gaiters come with them. The elsawin manual I have says i need the tool 3287A, but im not one for splashing that sort of money, does anyone know what size ball joint tool I need? As I cant find an asnwer anywhere.

Thanks

The usual way is to use 2 hammers.

Back off the retaining nut (so as to protect the thread) Place one hammer firmly against the eye surrounding the balljoint pin and give a meaningful tap against another side of the eye.

Sound crude - but that is the way most in the trade do it. Frankly the balljoint cracking 'tool' can cause more damage in the wrong hands.
