New Fabia came, but Surround?

Featured Replies

Hi, I finally got my Fabia today. Very impressed with it (SE Combi). I posted the specs in the Fabia register thread.

I have a small problem tho, I ordered the Skoda Surround package but I can't seem to enable it. I have the option in the MFD  but it's greyed out. I also don't have speakers above the door which I believe I should? All I have there is a plastic cover with sealed holes.

Can anyone with the system comfirm it?

Very nice ! I really like that blue.

Yes, I've got the same radio (Swing with Surround.)

[Edit!]  To change it - press "Media" button. Then press Sound button, and you will find the Surround and virtual Subwoofer settings there. They are not greyed when in Media, but they are greyed when in Radio. I can think of no good reason!

Hope you enjoy the car - and the wine !

Not having received my car yet, this is just a guess, but maybe the system only applies the surround sound option to media playback, not radio?  The quality of radio audio probably doesnt lend itself to any digital manipulation after transmission.

There is a bug somewhere, it took me a few days to be able to enable it. I think I had to disconnect the phone and use the radio instead of other media source.

If this doesn't work, go back to that screen from time to time until those 2 checkbooks aren't disabled (virtual subwoofer and Skoda surround).

This fixed it. Managed to enable it now thanks very very much!

I think you're right here. The option (although enabled) doesn't do anything when in FM/AM mode.

On a side note, are there mirror speakers for the door then? I didn't see them as an option but the holes and placement look to be there.

The speakers ( tweeters, I assume!) are in the grille just in front of the door handles. There is a metallic circle, just visible, about 10mm in from the edge of the aperture under the grille.

Yep - you're right - it doesn't seem to apply "Surround" or the "virtual subwoofer" to the radio. It is a little odd though - digital audio processing (which, I suspect, is what Surround and Subwoofer are) will just process audio - irrespective of the source.  Might sound a little odd, maybe, on AM radio - but on FM radio, don't really understand what the issue might be.

The reason why it's not available on DAB or FM is because the input signal is not constant therefore the sound processor can't work fully. The input signal depends in location and not a lead or Bluetooth connection within the confines of a car.

I'll take that ! Thanks, man.
