Engine mount bolts need replacing ...

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I've had my vrs in the garage today because it may have a crack in the manifold.

While it was there they said I could do with possibly replacing the engine mount bolts/bushes. I'm not very mechanically minded so just after a bit of advice as there is quite a bit of movement under the bonnet.

It's been mapped so do I do a like for like swap or replace with better??

Thanks in advance

Replace the dog bone bush with this...

It will drastically reduce the rocking motion of the engine under acceleration. Improving putting the power down and making it feel a bit more eager. You loose a bit of momentum every time you floor it from the engine rocking on it's mounts so the more you can reduce this the better. But as always there is a compromise and that is more vibrations in the cabin, you can however adjust the idle speed with vcds to a level that helps with that.

I wouldn't really replace anything else unless the other mounts are cracked or badly worn.

Thanks Matt.

I had been looking at all sorts online and nothing really came from that!

When the mechanic was in the car he put it into gear an was revving it and there seemed to be a lot of movement forward an back! Not just the usual judder. I'm not sure if that will make sense. Would there be any other bushes worth replacing, it's currently lowered 25mm on eibach spring.

I'd just try the power-flex dog bone bush first and see if that solves it. Shouldn't take a garage long to fit, half hour at the most with it on a ramp I bet.

It's surprising how much these engines do jump about on the standard mounts though!

Regarding other bushes search for 'fabia vrs console bush' on google. There are various options but the cupra and psb ones are the best value for money and are also for sale on eBay. A well worth while mod. I'd probably get the ball joints changed at the same time too then you can have it re-aligned once it's done and it should be sweet. Said to make the handling more precise and less of an uneasy feeling in the corners. Both of these bushes I need to get round to changing on mine at some point!
